ONE SENTENCE
If the gods came to me
and offered me a branch
I’d gladly meet them, Buggles
and I would take the chance
if they told me I had
just this single day
to write but one sentence to you
what, my son, would I say?
would I tell you how your smile
once set my world alight?
or how I still cry for you
alone and darkened each night?
would I tell you the sun
in ignorance, still tries to shine?
but its glows are nothing
now your face it cannot find
would I tell you of rain
and how it DOES still fall?
compared to my tears
its wetness is nothing at all
should I tell you of your loss
and what it means to me?
of how strongly I feel you absence
in our shrunken family?
perhaps I would write
of all the love I hold for you
of how your baby giggles
are the memory to pull me through
if the gods came to me
and offered me a branch
I’d gladly meet them, Buggles
and I would take the chance
I’d take the sun rays
and add them to my heart
Sprinkling them with rain’s tears
I would slowly start…
I miss the sun, rain, laughter
and every single star
and my one sentence would be
I miss everything you are
